AA Issue 8, Letter from the Editor

This issue of AA! takes a different look at anime. We're going beyond simply the art and examine other components that make up the world of Anime. Lorelei takes a look fan fiction where fans continue the lives of our beloved characters and stories. Guest writer James McCawley gives a detailed perspective on the role and importance of original musical compositions, with a special focus on Yoko Kanno & HajimeX/1999 Mizoguchi, the composers of Vision of Escaflowne. George tackles the non-animated arm of the world of anime: Garage Kits. Also, we have Monica's interview with Maria Rider who brought anime to the mid-west with Anime Central, and for all those who are also manga fans, Stephanie Lau reviews X/1999.
It has taken longer than usual to bring out this issue, but we are finally able to bring it out, and we hope you find it enjoyable!
Spring often marks a new beginning, but in college it also means the end of another school year. Sadly, the conclusion of this year will bring the departure of some of the wonderful staff of JAS and AA, and without a staff it means no AA!
If you are interested in joining or helping out with either JAS or AA, please send email to jaswww@bsdac.uchicago.edu. We are looking for writers, graphic artists, and anyone willing to help with managing JAS. Thank you, and enjoy the issue!

Hsin Tsao
Aiya! Sorry. I wrote a horrible "Letter from the Editor," but unfortunately (or fortunately) it was lost somewhere along that big internet road in the sky. Thankfully, Hsin saved the day. Anyway, I'll still be around next year, so I'm all for other people joining JAS and helping out. Remember, we're all about fun, and fun is all we are! :P
