Anime Screened
Okay, so I still haven't figured out exactly what an editor is supposed to do. That's okay, right? Because I haven't had formal lessons yet from Tu, the last mastermind who managed to run everything smoothly. But I must say, I have been enjoying the screenings.
Unfortunately, Fushigi Yuugi is ending this quarter. It's basically becoming a sob story, as they, the evil author and artists, are killing off practically all the lovable characters. Although I don't like how the story is going, it still is very interesting, and I can't wait to see how the series ends.
We are also showing DNA^2, which is an entertaining series. Karin, a girl from the future, comesDNA^2 back to our time period to stop Junta, a young man destined to turn into a "MegaPlayboy." Due to her meddling, she accidentally awakens the possibility that he will turn into this MegaPlayboy who causes massive overcrowding in the future due to his prolific effortsnow. She comes up with the scheme that if he falls in love with his childhood friend Ami, everything will turn out okay. Despite her best efforts, though, she is constantly thwarted from succeeding. If it's not other girls throwing themselves at Junta and scaring off Ami, it's jealous ex-boyfriends encouraging MegaPlayboy to surface and protect women.
My personal favorite, next to Fushigi Yuugi and SailorMoon, is Bakuretsu Hunter. It's about five Bakuretzu Hunteryoung men and women who must wander around and eliminate dangerous and oppressive sorcerers. Carrot is the main character, and his bumbling ways are adored by two sisters: Tira and Chocolat. Carrot's younger brother Marron is very proficient in magic, and help Tira and Chocolat retrieve Carrot from messy situations. To round out the group, Gateau, a muscular blond, is traveling with the interesting characters. Each episode is a story in itself, so it's a nice break for the nerves from Fushigi Yuugi because there's no cliffhangers to agonize over. It's a very humorous show and very likeable.
In addition to showings, there is an anime convention coming up soon. People interested in details should email Mike (mvpotter). It will be held at the Rosemont Theater, which is near O'Hare. It's a bit far, but if you're a true anime fan, it'll seem like moments away. If you want more info, just email me, and as I learn more, so shall you.
For this month's issue, we get a closer look at how some of our members tick. Anime takes over your life, and we get an inside view of it's ever-tightening grip. Of course, none of us are complaining. How could you, about something so much fun?
Well, enjoy your Christmas break. I know I will. I shall be in Taiwan, buying Manga galore.
