Thank you for your explanation of the circumstances. We had already
placed our order with the bakery for tomorrow, and thus we will be
having a sale tomorrow- however, we plan to discuss this at tomorrow's
officer's meeting, and we will reach a decision then.

Thank you for being so polite in your request, and for taking the time
to explain things when you are still tired out from all the work of the
show. However, you are somewhat incorrect in your comment that the sale of
buns by other groups began last year. In the spring of 2002, two RSOs sold
buns- one was in some way affiliated with BJ, and the other was an
environmental group. I was informed by you and another member of
CUSA that there were some existing ORCSA regulations preventing any club
other than CUSA from selling buns, a claim which was contradicted by the
ORCSA staff. I would also like to note that Henderson house members who
participated in previous bun sales disagree with your contention that
they had stopped selling buns after being approached.

I can understand feeling protective of one's fundraisers, but such
arguments can be construed as dishonest, if not outright attempts at
intimidation, and I doubt my club is alone in disapproving of such
tactics, especially if one wants to preserve or form a gentlemen's
agreement. It might also be a good idea to make other RSOs more aware of
such an agreement, as I have been a JAS officer for nearly two years now,
and a member for over four, and have never heard of any claims to CUSA's
exclusive rights to the bun sale, and I have seen other clubs sell buns,
which further confuses the issue. If this gentlemen's agreement has been
in effect in the past, you might want to consider discussing it with the
RSOs at the beginning of every year, given the high turnover rate of most
RSO boards.

UCJAS understand your concerns and none of us wish to antagonize CUSA or
harm your club in any way. Although we will keep your feelings in mind
when we debate the issue tomorrow, we also feel that exclusive control of
any fundraising method is counterproductive to the welfare of the RSOs and
disrespectful to the ORCSA community. We are not looking for a cash cow-
our fundraising goals are modest, and we simply wish to diversify beyond
our usual bubble tea sales and raffles. We feel certain that a CUSA bun
sale will be warmly welcomed later in the quarter, and UCJAS members will
be first in line to support you, as we hope you will us.

Sincerely,

Alexis Siemon, UCJAS President
