Future Secretary/Webmasters take note! It is not difficult at all to consolidate power as a lowly secretary (or other diminutive position). The simple rule of thumb is to do what others haven't bothered to do. Sushu started out as officer-filler, (i.e. all the old members are leaving and innocent firsties were raped* and pillaged), but had ascended to the Vice Presidency by the end of the year.
Control the channels of communication. Once you become the Voice of JAS and control all media conduits, all minions will bow to your will. Technically, the Prez and the Veep have right to emails as well, so be on guard and act early and decisively. (It's a little too early for back-alley accidents. You need to work the system, not overthrow it.... just yet)
Control officer memory. Remember that minutes = records = history. If you take minutes during every officer's meeting and send them out, you are essentially restructuring officer memory. For large event planning such as ACen, they will turn to you to provide notes from last week. This also has a side benefit of association. By taking minutes, you are associating yourself to the agenda. Soon you will be able to propose officer meeting agenda items.
Take initiative. Propose events, take up responsibility and duties. The duties of each officer are not clearly defined, so anything that they're not doing is up for grabs. Once you grab it, it is yours to control and execute. This is the most important, and perhaps the most time consuming. The basic reasoning is that if you do the work of a vice president, you are in essence a vice president.
Know your Enemy. In this case, know the inner workings of ORCSA. Hang out at 001, learn how to write a budget proposal. Learn who to ask for what, how to reserve rooms, where to get the a/v key. Soon you will be the only one who knows how to do anything, and all must turn to you for guidance. A corollary to this is to know your club members. They're an untapped minion base for that peasant rebellion you are planning! Or when you need support during screening votes or club elections
Make Alliances. For support, for ideas, for votes. This is how bills are pushed through.
Work with the System. Keep the other officers happy and complacent so that they do not notice your power-grabbing tactics. Learn from the Japanese: see what the Meiji government did regarding the daimyo, the samurai, and the land restructuring.
