Dear Sushu:
I wanted to write to you and your board to apologize for the language I used in
the past e-mail. I let my temper get the best of me, and I hope you all do not
think my behavior is a reflection of my fellow board members as well.
In any case, our president Chheng sent a message to request a meeting in person
with you and Alexis. She's right in saying that this isn't the best medium to
communicate in this situation. A face-to-face conversation would be much more
productive. We're all adults and we all just wish the best for our respective
RSOs. I'm confident that all of us can reach some sort of compromise.
If you could send my apologies to your board as well, I would greatly
appreciate it.
Best,
L---- Leong

Dear Sushu:
This is Chheng, the President of CUSA. I have been off email for the past few
days (I'm trying to recover from CUSA Show madness), and so have just learned
about this situation. I really apologize if any of my board members came
across as rude or intimidating (and please let Alexis know as well, I can't
seem to find her email address). It is really not CUSA's intention at all to
be confrontational in any way (it is definitely NOT on my presidential agenda).
While we do not want to prevent you guys from holding a successful fundraiser,
our main concern is that a certain value attached to the CUSA bun sales as a
tradition might be lost if everyone started to sell buns. I have been in CUSA
for four years, and I have been on the CUSA board since my second year, which
was back in 2002. CUSA started the bun sales back in 1994, and yes, I do have
the old board documents to prove it. I know it sounds silly and all, but there
is an endearing tradition attached to the CUSA bun sales. I regularly meet
with CUSA alumni who remember the CUSA Show and the CUSA bun sales as a
highlight during their time with CUSA. You might think that buns are just
buns, but it would be an error to assume that everyone else thinks the same way
as you do. Might you and Alexis have some time next week to meet up and chat
about this in person? Emails can be quite impersonal, and there is always the
danger of misinterpretation of tone. I personally have no feelings of ill-will
towards you, Alexis, or JAS. I think this whole issue is in part a
misunderstanding bred by incomplete/misinterpreted information, and I would
really like to meet with you to hear JAS' side of the story and to come to a
fair resolution for everyone. Thank you very much for your time, Sushu, and
again, I'm really sorry if any of my board members have been rude in any way.
Sincerely,
Chheng S. Lim
President, Chinese Undergraduate Students Association
